More than half of all people diagnosed with cancer receive chemotherapy, a medication or combination of medications designed to kill cancer cells. Your doctor will choose the most appropriate chemotherapy treatment based on the type and stage of your cancer, your overall health, your response to previous cancer treatments and your goals and preferences.
Chemotherapy drugs can be administered in various ways, including pills, injections, creams and infusion. Infusion is the intravenous administration of fluids or medicine, including chemotherapy drug, into a patient’s bloodstream. It is the most common method of delivering chemotherapy. Treatments are administered in our office by oncology certified nurses, registered nurses with expertise in the many drugs and regimens administered to our patients.
Many side effects once associated with chemotherapy are now easily prevented or controlled, allowing many people to work, travel and participate in normal activities while receiving treatment. For millions of people who have conditions that respond well to chemotherapy, this approach helps them to enjoy full, productive lives
